WPG - Desalination of Sea Water and Waste Water Using the Gas Hydrates Method
WPG is a system designed by CDM which converts sea water or waste water to desalinated (drinking) water.
From Raw Materials to Products within Gas Hydrates Method
Features of Gas Hydrates Method
- Completely different technology from conventional desalination methods that use reverse osmosis membrane or heat evaporation methods
- No need for a large amount of heating energy and chemical reagents
- No clogging of reverse osmosis membrane caused by high pressure.
- Cost to desalinate sea water is economical (half the cost of conventional methods).
Advantages of Gas Hydrates Method
- Excellent cost performance compared with that of evaporation, or membrane method.
- No scale formation like that of evaporation method, so maintenance labor is reduced.
- Enables setup of an integrated system for desalination and power generation by using gas in the gas hydrates, such as methane and petroleum.
Mechanism of Our Gas Hydrates Method
- Improved freezing method
- Gaseous molecules are entrapped in a cage-structured lattice of icy water molecules.
- Contaminants in the water are removed during gas hydrate crystalline formation.
- Gas hydrates can be easily separated into pure water and gas.
